( Tri-State ) - The Greater Cincinnati Water Works' intake valves on the Ohio River are going to reopen at 2pm on Thursday.

A spokesperson for the utility says the chemical from the West Virginia Elk River spill has flowed through the river and past Cincinnati.

GCWW shut down the valves on Tuesday night in anticipation of the chemical to keep the toxin out of the mains.

About 300,000 people around Charleston were told to stop using tap water for anything other than flushing toilets on Thursday, January 9th.
