Near Puerto Rico, scientists have discovered a new bug species 70 feet deep on coral reef in Mona Passage that they have named “Litarachna Lopezae.” The reef is part of a body of water that separates Puerto Rico and the Dominican Republic. We know that JLo has roots in Puerto Rico, but it’s sort of random to name a bug after her, especially because so many stars also have roots in Puerto Rico. Turns out that JLo’s inspiration wasn’t random at all, a University of Montenegro biologist, Vladimir Pesic, explains in an email to MSN, “The reason behind the unusual choice of name for the new species is simple: J.Lo’s songs and videos kept the team in a continuous good mood when writing the manuscript and watching World Cup Soccer 2014.” Overall, Lopez has been an inspiration to us all throughout the years and this is just a small token of gratitude! Some of the scientists favorites were, “Ain’t It Funny,” ”I Luh Ya Papi,” “Jenny from the Block” and Pesic’s favorite (and mine!!!), “All I Have” featuring LL Cool J. It may seem weird to have a bug named after you, but the fact that JLo’s music can even keep a team of scientists encouraged, is really touching!
