(Cincinnati) -- A memorial service honoring longtime Ohio House majority leader William L. Mallory, father to former Cincinnati Mayor Mike Mallory, is planned for Dec. 22 at the Cincinnati Museum Center.

Mallory The first black State House majority leader and its longest-serving died last week at the age of 82. He was elected to the House as a Democrat in 1966, and served 28 years.

Mallory is remembered for his work to preserve Cincinnati's Union Terminal and support its transformation into the home of the Museum Center. Mallory reportedly said he could recall shining shoes in the terminal as a young man and hearing stories from travelers who came in from all over the world.

The public service and celebration of life is scheduled to begin at 10 a.m. on Dec. 22.
