The Greater Cincinnati & Northern Kentucky Film Commission have announced that a movie starring Oscar winner Cate Blanchett will film in Cincinnati next year.

Todd Haynes also known for “Far from Heaven” and “I’m Not Here,” will direct the 1950's period piece that will also star Rooney Mara, from ``The Girl With the Dragon Tattoo.''

The romantic drama titled ``Carol'' is based on a novel by Patricia Highsmith, and centers around Mara and Blanchett's characters Therese Belivet and Carol Aird who form a romantic relationship. Highsmith is also known for other works like “Strangers on a Train” and “The Talented Mr. Ripley,” both stories that were also made into major motion pictures.

The movies executive producers Elizabeth Karlsen and Stephen Woolley along with producers Tessa Ross and Christine Vachon say Cincinnati's period architecture fit in well for the for the story, that is set in New York City. Filming will take about 7 weeks starting in mid-March, with scouting and pre-production in January.

This will be the first film shot entirely in the state under Ohio's Film Production Incentive that was passed in 2012 in an effort to bring in more Hollywood films by offering various tax breaks.
