(Cincinnati) The owner of The Dirty.com, a gossip website, is appealing the decision against him in a case involving former Bengals cheerleader Sarah Jones. The case heads to the 6th U.S. Circuit Court of Appeals in Cincinnati Thursday. Jones filed a lawsuit against website owner Nik Richie when website users posted statements saying Jones had had sex with Benglas players and had a sexually transmitted diseases. A jury found the rumors were false and that Richie had acted with malice or reckless disregard by publishing them. Jones was awarded $338,000 in the case. That ruling was upheld by a federal judge. Ritchie claims he should not be responsible for what users post on the website. If the case is upheld, it could have several legal implications for websites that allow users to post their own material.
