(Cincinnati, OH.)—Duke Energy warns its customers of a fraudulent billing scam that has been stealing money for weeks.

The power company said that the scammers call Duke customers and demand payment or else the customer’s power will be shut off in the hour. The scammer tells the customer to buy a pre-paid debit card, and then drains the account after the customer gives them the information about the account.


Duke Energy wanted to remind its customers that Duke never asks for pre-paid debit cards, will always let the customer know in advance if they are shutting off their power, and if a customer feels that they are being scammed to hang up the phone and call local police and then Duke Energy Customer Support.
