Just 20 months after becoming Chief of Police in Cincinnati, James Craig is moving on. He has accepted the job of chief in Detroit Michigan. Craig started his career in policing there 37 years ago.
The Chief says it was the draw of family that made him pursue the job of top cop in Detroit. His mother and father live there and he is looking forward to spending more time with his family. He also says morale in the Detroit department is at an all time low and he is looking forward to turning that around.
As for his time in Cincinnati, the Mayor and City Manager both had high praise for the Chief on his departure. While they credit him with reducing crime in the city, police statistics show the homicide count in Cincinnati has jumped 64% so far this year.
